While the Million Dollar Fish season has come to a close, anglers are being told to stay on the lookout for the next five months, with the coveted $1 million-tagged barra yet to be reeled in.

On Tuesday, NT Major Events Company announced 10 barramundi carrying a $1 million tag would remain active during the off-season between April 1 and September 30.

However, only one of the barramundi will count, with the first $1 million barra caught eliminating the remaining nine from contention.

To claim the million-dollar prize, anglers must have been registered for season 10.

NT Major Event Company acting chief executive Trevor Cox said the latest season was a another successful installment to one of the nation’s most loved fishing competitions.

“With more than 62,000 registrations this season—the highest since the competition began—it’s clear that fishos from across Australia and around the world are eager to experience the thrill of chasing a red-tagged barramundi in our incredible waterways,” he said.

“This competition isn’t just about big catches; it’s also a big win for the NT, driving tourism, boosting local businesses, and encouraging more people to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.”

A total of $210,000 was won in season 10, with 17 lucky anglers reeling in a small fortune for their efforts.

The first week of the season was particularly fortuitous, with nine $10,000 red-tagged barras claimed - matching the entire tally of season 9 in a matter of days.

It has also been revealed 57 per cent of season 10’s entries were interstate anglers, with WA, SA and Tasmania registering the biggest jumps in enrollments.
