Northern Territory footballer Joseph Salmon has been committed to a Supreme Court trial facing more than 50 charges including for DV offences against two women dating back to 2020.
The NTFL premiership player with St Mary’s appeared by audio visual link in the Darwin Local Court on Wednesday charged with allegedly assaulting the women on several occasions.
Salmon was arrested in Victoria in August 2023 following a police investigation into the case that prompted him to move from the NT to Geelong.
He was initially bailed to Geelong where he played for North Shore in the Geelong Football Netball League.
However, he allegedly breached his bail conditions by returning to the NT and making contact with his complainants in 2024.
Judge Alan Woodcock said he was satisfied the evidence and charges, that include depriving a person of liberty and suffocating a person, were sufficient for Salmon to face trial.
Salmon will face a total of 63 charges also including aggravated assault, stealing, choking, failure to rescue and damage to property.
One alleged incident involved him punching his pregnant partner in the stomach, causing ongoing pain and the need for surgical intervention for a ruptured fallopian tube.
“I am satisfied the evidence is sufficient for those charges to commit him to stand trial on the next sittings at the Supreme Court,” Mr Woodcock said.
Salmon will face trial at the Supreme Court on March 6.
Meanwhile, his other charges of breaching bail and engaging in conduct that contravenes his DVO have been adjourned to June 11.
