Jess Mauboy, Themeli Magripilis tie the knot in Darwin but there were noticeable exclusions

CROWNED the “Prince and Princess of Darwin”, social media has exploded with well wishes for singer Jessica Mauboy and her beau Themeli Magripilis following their wedding.

Hundreds of Territorians have congratulated the couple who tied-the-knot in front of the nearest and dearest on Saturday afternoon at a church in the Darwin CBD.

“Congratulations Prince and Princess of Darwin, a truly beautiful union,” Tim West wrote on Facebook

Posts to the NT News’ Facebook page have attracted thousands of likes and hundreds of comments in less than 24 hours celebrating the couple and their long-awaited nuptials.

The small ceremony was followed by a reception at Mindil Beach Casino with more than 300 people on the guest list.

A source close to the couple told the NT News there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd and the ceremony felt like the opening scene of Love Actually with “spontaneous singing”.

Absent from the list were fellow The Voice coaches Guy Sebastian, Keith Urban and Rita Ora however, Mauboy’s niece Saraya Mauboy-Hudson, who auditioned for the show in 2021, scored an exclusive invite.

While details of the wedding were kept well away from the public, including the date, it appears Mauboy had her dream day.

In April she told media she wanted a sunset beach wedding surrounded by family in the Top End.

The reception was precisely that: a white marque with mirrored windows on the lawns of Mindil Beach Casino Resort, overlooking the famous Darwin beach where tourists gather to often clap the sunset.

While white lanterns hang over an alfresco beach themed outdoor area where guests milled around 5pm, before entering through doors that were flanked with bouquets of white roses and bleached coral.

The wedding comes two months after her new single release Automatic and a month after The Voice wrapped up filming.

It is unknown how long the couple will stick around the Top End but with Jetstar’s recent debacle on flights guests and the new nuptials might be around longer than they thought.

Magripilis proposed to Mauboy three years ago on a beach in Greece, a decade after they had met on a Darwin dance floor.
