Fans of sports fashions and sports in general will get a huge boost when a popular global brand opens its first Northern Territory store at Casuarina Square this week.
JD Sports has leased a 414 sqm tenancy on the ground floor at Casuarina near Mecca.
An official opening is planned to begin Thursday, August 15, with a range of activities scheduled for the launch and across subsequent days.
The store will open at 9am, giving customers the opportunity to buy previously sold-out and limited-edition styles, colourways and JD exclusive lines.
The launch will include competitions including spin-to-win and feature local musicians, artists and an in-store DJ during opening weekend from Thursday to Saturday.
JD Sports Australian chief executive Aaron Faraguna said the company had plenty of “feedback” from Territorians looking forward to the brand’s Top End arrival.
“We’re extremely excited to open our first store in the Northern Territory at Casuarina Square,” Mr Faraguna said.
“We’ve had regular feedback from Territorians over recent years, asking for a store in the Top End. Now we’re finally in a position to deliver the JD Sports brand along with our exclusive product ranges and global omnichannel retail experience to our keen and loyal customers.
“What our consumers will see is a curation of fantastic footwear, apparel and accessories that they haven’t seen before on the local market.
“Previously sold-out sneaker releases including Nike Dunks, Retro Air Jordans and Adidas Original’s Sambas will line the store’s shelves on opening day.
“We will have hundreds of exclusive products, ranges and brands will be ranged to show the best of the best JD has to offer and give the NT consumer a fantastic experience.”
Darwin will be JD’s 60th Australian store, with more than 3400 stores worldwide in 38 different countries.
Casuarina Square centre manager Polly Lamond said she anticipated a strong response to the new arrival.
“This is a significant event for Casuarina Square, the City of Darwin and the whole of the Territory,” Ms Lamond said.
“We are expecting long queues of sportswear enthusiasts to come when JD Sports opens. “There has been great anticipation throughout the community about this since the opening was announced a few months ago.”
Beginning in 1981 with a single store in the Northwest of England, JD Group is now one of the world’s leading sports fashion and outdoor brands.
