Four children aged between 10 and 12 have been arrested following a bizarre robbery at a Bagot Road store and an attempted forced entry at a Coconut Grove complex on Tuesday.
It is alleged two of the boys entered the Rebel sports store at the Jape Homemaker Centre about 12.15pm, one of whom used a baseball bat from the same store to threaten staff.
Police said the duo then stole two scooters, as well as the baseball bat, before fleeing the scene.
A short time later, police received a report of the group attempting to gain entry to a complex in Coconut Grove.
It was there that Strike Force Trident arrested the four boys.
The 12-year-old was charged with aggravated robbery and attempted burglary and will face youth court at a later date.
The remaining three boys were dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005 and released into the care of a responsible adult.
A store worker said the same group of boys had allegedly stolen clothes at the store on Friday.
“It was scary,” she said.
The store worker said she tried to approach the boys on the Friday to ask them to pay for the items and warned them there was security cameras in use.
“They said ‘we know’ and looked at the camera and smiled,” she said.
She said the boys then escaped through the fire exit at the back of the store.
