Fisho’s dream: Extra month added to 2024 Million Dollar Fish competition

Northern Territory anglers will now have an extra month to hook the million dollar fish. Find out why the extra time was added.

Fishos now have an extra month to hook themselves a million dollars – with the competition officially extended until April 30.

Due to end on March 31, but with no winner yet announced, the season has now been extended until the end of the month to give everyone more time to catch a red-tagged million-dollar fish.

There are at present 80 million dollar barras in Top End waterways, meaning there has never been a better chance to reel in a life-changing fish.

Season nine of the Million Dollar Fish competition has seen the highest ever number of registrations for the annual event, with the world’s richest fishing competition attracting local, interstate and international attention.

Chief Minister Eva Lawler said anglers now have all of next month to catch the prize even after Easter ends.

“The Million Dollar Fish has another month of chances to be caught,” she said.

“Whether that be out in the water this Easter long weekend, or throughout April, I know keen Territorians will be aiming to reel in the million dollar fish.

“The Million Dollar Fish is a truly iconic home grown Territory competition which has now resulted in record numbers of registrations and $100,000 given out to winners this season alone.

“This extension also gives visitors more time to head up to the Top End’s amazing waterways for what has become one of the Territory’s great success stories in stimulating the economy.”

Sportsbet NT Operations and Partnerships manager Thijs Bors said they wanted to give away the million dollar prize.

“Million Dollar Fish is shaking up the competition and extending it for 30 days,” he said.

“We can’t wait to make one lucky angler a millionaire and hope the fish is caught soon. Get out there and wet a line, everyone is in with a shot of catching the big one.”
