Darwin will have a flood of more than 13,000 visitors in the next week with eight cruise ships docking at Fort Hill wharf.
The rush started today with the mid-sized Viking Orion getting a wet welcome for its 930 passengers. It leaves 1pm Wednesday on the same day 2850 tourists arrive aboard the Celebrity Solstice.
The boat is due in at 5am and will depart 12 hours later.
The boat is known for its innovative design and amenities.
A unique feature is the “Lawn Club” on Deck 15, offering a half-acre of real grass for outdoor activities and relaxation.
The ship boasts multiple atriums, including one with a large tree and another with a live plant wall in the Solarium pool.
Four days later another 3080 tourists will arrive aboard the luxury Crown Princess which cruises in at 5am and leaves at 10pm the same day.
Also docking in Darwin on the same morning is the Seven Seas Mariner with 700 passengers.
Om Monday April 7 Darwin will host three boats of various sizes with the Coral Geographer (120 passengers) the Nautica (684 passengers) and the Seven Seas Voyager (700 passengers).
On Thursday April 10 the biggest of them all, the bells and whistles Ovation of the Seas arrives with 4,180 tourists at 7.30am for a 10 hour stopover.
The arrival of the cruise ships will give the Darwin economy a multimillion-dollar injection, pouring much needed revenue into the cash registers of tour operators, pubs, souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants.
