The most glamourous day on the Darwin Cup Carnival racing calendar, the Rydges Palmerston Ladies’ Day, was filled with the best of fashion and celebration as thousands broke up the week at the races.
Ladies’ Day has grown into a tent pole day of the Cup Carnival since it was started by Leonie McNally in 1987, with local brands and designs shown off from the track to the pavilion.
Amanda Jarrett hosted the entertainment at the TAB Pavilion, which showcased local retailers such as Stomp and Attitude for Men in front of hundreds of women.
“It’s the best, most glamourous day of the whole carnival and it’s just great to celebrate the ladies,” she said.
“We all work hard, it’s time to have a day for us, it’s beautiful in the pavilion, and we get to enjoy the fashion, entertainment and the company as well.
“This year is very local focused, we’re showcasing our local retailers and that makes it special because there’s nothing like Top End fashion.
“I’m impressed with the fashion the ladies come out with every year, they somehow always manage to up the ante, follow the trends and put a Territory edge on it, I’m blown away.”
Ursula Watson is another frequent attendee of the Ladies Day celebrations; drawn to the fashion and company of the day.
“I come every year and really look forward to it,” she said.
“It’s just a day where we can all come together and wear something colourful and vibrant, we end up looking after each other and having a really good day.”
