Alice Springs council partners with Envirobank to make claiming cash for eligible containers easier

A new partnership in the Red Centre is set to make it a touch easier for punters to claim cash for eligible recyclable containers – but there are a few steps you’ll need to follow.

Claiming cash for eligible 10c containers just got a touch easier in the Red Centre thanks to a new partnership, but there are still a few steps punters will need to follow before they can see their bank accounts grow.

Alice Springs Town Council last week unveiled a new recycling pod.

The pod was planted in the carpark in partnership with Envirobank and allows punters to claim cash for their eligible 10c containers.

However, there are a few steps punters will need to take before they get their cash, Envirobank founder Narelle Anderson said.

“The most important thing is to make sure that you put the right containers into the bag,” she said.

“You can use whatever bag you like.”

With a bag of empties ready to go, Ms Anderson said punters will then need to put an QR code “identifier” to mark the bag as their own.

“So it must have either a sticker or download the label and print it for every bag that you’re going to put in here,” she said.

QR code stickers are available on the pods, or alternatively, the council offices have Envirobank bags which already have a QR code on them available for collection.

“If the stickers run out, because no doubt they will – it will be very, very popular service – you can jump online and you can print a code and just pop it inside the bag,” she said.

Ms Anderson said the QR code stickers will register to individual accounts, with the money then transferred back to the punter – or a charity of their choice, if they choose.

With a capacity for more than 15,000 empties, Ms Anderson said the containers will be emptied twice a week – but that could change per demand.

The Envirobank depot on Santa Teresa Rd is also still open for punters to drop their eligible containers off to.
