THE fight for the vacant councillor seat in the north of the Gold Coast is finally warming up with long term resident and active community member Pat Reynolds announcing his candidacy.
Mr Reynolds, a business development manager in the disability sector, says he wants to establish the first PCYC in the north.
CALLING ALL SUPER YACHTS, WE’RE OPEN FOR BUSINESS
“I’ve lived in the area for 13 years now and felt the opportunity to help shape the division’s future was too strong for me to ignore,” Mr Reynolds told the Bulletin.
“While there’s a number of growth issues in the northern Gold Coast that need to be managed, there are also plenty of opportunities to ensure it continues to be one of the most popular places in Australia to live.
“As someone who works with local community organisations I know first-hand why we need a councillor with a strong plan for one of our fastest growing regions.”
Mr Reynolds is ramping up his campaign after rivals Mark Hammel and Alec Pokarier started well before Christmas. Health worker and young mother Renee Clark is the other candidate.
A family man with six adult sons and most recently a grandchild, Mr Reynolds is involved in the Jacobs Well Marine Rescue, Rotary and a local body corporate. He is a volunteer firefighter.
CANDIDATE’S MOVIE PLAN TO SHOWCASE THE GOLD COAST
“Being an active member of the community is very important as it allows me to understand what’s really happening on the ground and how I can influence change for better outcomes for the division,” he said.
“There’s an old saying that council is all about roads, rates and rubbish, but I put residents at the top of that list as it’s the people that make a community what it is.”
Mr Reynolds said one of his priorities was to get approval for a new PCYC for the northern Coast.
“PCYCs unite communities through sport, healthy living, play groups and everything in between,” he said.
“I believe City of Gold Coast should push this idea strongly to the Queensland Government and if elected my well-known relationships with our local state and federal members will
help see this through.
MAYORAL CANDIDATE’S BIZARRE REQUEST TO THE GOLD COAST
“I also want to focus on a duplication of the Yawalpah Road railway bridge as it’s one of the biggest congestion points of the northern Gold Coast leading right up to Exit 49.”
However it’s large infrastructure projects that will create jobs for the local community that
Mr Reynolds said he was developing a plan for a city-first ecotourism facility that would encourage sustainable development, provide jobs and showcase the natural beauty of Division 1.
