Nightcliff quintet lead the way after brilliant Round 1 outing

The men from Nightcliff put on a brilliant opening round display in their big victory over Darwin at the weekend, and feature heavily in our Round 1 1st XI. See who made the team.

It was and eventful opening round of DDCC men’s A-grade action at the weekend that saw both grand finalists suffering defeats.

Round 1

1. CONNOR CARROLL (Nightcliff, Opener)

The opener was electric for Nightcliff in his first inning of the season. He smashed 90 runs off 75 balls, and hit a mammoth 14 fours and three maximums.

2. DOUWTJIE HOOGENBOEZEM (Nightcliff, Opener)

Joining in on the fun, Hoogenboezem was a brilliant supporting act to his opening partner Carroll as he hit 75 runs off 82 balls in the pair’s 157 run stand. He hit five boundaries and four sixes.

3. JAGADESWARA KODURU (Waratah, Batter)

The new Waratah captain was firing on all cylinders against Palmerston as he hit 80 runs from 103 deliveries at first-drop. Koduru found the rope twice and cleared it on three occasions.

4. JAMES DOHERTY (Nightcliff, Batter)

The Tiger’s number five fell one shy of a half century, making 49 off 56 at a strike rate of 87.5.

5. PRASANNA KETHEESHWARAN (PINT, Batter)

At number six, Ketheeshwaran steadied the ship and steered his side to victory with a patient 38* from 85 delivers, hitting just the two fours.

6. MICHAEL KUDRA (Nightcliff, Wicketkeeper)

The captain scored 15 runs from 25 rocks at number six but was most impressive behind the sticks, taking two catches and a run out.

7. COBY EDMONDSTONE (PINT, All-rounder)

Doing a bit of everything, Edmondstone hit a handy 38 runs from 46 at the top of the order, courtesy of six fours and a maximum. He was also lethal with the Kookaburra, taking 4/23 off 10 overs, with two maidens.

8. DAVE DUBEY (Waratah, All-rounder)

The all-rounder was instrumental in the Tah's Round 1 triumph at the weekend. Batting at number one he hit a run a ball 23 with four fours while taking a four-fa in the second innings, with figures of 4/32 from nine overs.

9. UDARA WEERASINGHE (Waratah, Bowler)

The Waratah veteran had the ball on a string in his 10-over stint, snagging a very nice 3/24 , with three maidens.

10. CHRIS MCEVOY (Districts, Bowler)

The Croc bowled a very economic spell in a losing effort, leading the way for his side with 3/17 off his 10 overs, also recording three maidens.

11. CHARLIE SMITH (Nightcliff, Bowler)

The leggy was on song against the Eagles and was massive in his side’s 114-run win, ripping through the line-up, taking 4/32  in his nine-over stint.
