TOURISM and Hospitality Minister Natasha Fyles has admitted she is worried about the level of crime in Alice Springs and called for a “solution-focused” response, following a special TV report highlighting the issue.

A Current Affair aired a special report on crime in the Central Australian town last night, after receiving dozens of emails from locals calling for help to address the situation.

Speaking to Katie Woolf on Mix 104.9 this morning, Minister Natasha Fyles said she was aware of the report, though she hadn’t yet watched it.

”Yes Katie, I am worried,” she said.

“We all have to work together — as a community, as a government — to make sure that we have Alice Springs as a safe vibrant community.”

“We need that community. It’s a pivotal service to many remote communities, but it’s also a key tourism location, and to have it perceived through the way it was presented last night, certainly is disappointing.
