A WOMAN allegedly tried to bite a female police officer during a drunken struggle on Byron Bay beach yesterday.
Video of the 18-year-old’s arrest surfaced after police were called to the rear of a caravan park on Byron Bay beach in relation to intoxicated people being disruptive.
Police allege the intoxicated woman tried to bite the female officer, who was arresting her for offensive behaviour, when a man also tried to intervene and an argument broke out.

Police will allege they located the remains of a bottle of vodka in the woman’s bag which they disposed of in accordance with the pre-existing alcohol-free zone.
In a statement, NSW Police said the female officer had to use self-defence to avoid injury during the arrest.
The woman suffered an injury and was taken to Byron Bay Hospital, under police guard, for precautionary medical checks and later released.
The altercation came shortly after police were called to a Byron Bay beach to reports of intoxicated people being disruptive in a pre-existing alcohol free zone.
Police said they spoke to a number of people to identify those involved and approached a woman, who was intoxicated.
It’s alleged that the woman began behaving aggressively towards the police after officers searched the woman’s bag and disposed of the remains of a bottle of alcohol.
The woman was taken to Byron Bay Hospital for observation and was later released. She was then taken to Byron Bay Police Station where she was charged with affray, assault police, assault ambulance officer and offensive conduct.
She was given conditional bail and is due to appear in Byron Bay Local Court on Thursday 8 March 2018.
The 21-year-old man was located walking in a nearby street and was arrested. He was taken to Byron Bay Police Station where he was charged with affray, assault police (x2), and hinder police.
