Sydney castaway Tim Shaddock’s health ‘completely normal’ after three months lost at sea

Sydney sailor Tim Shaddock was rescued after three months lost at sea with his dog — and doctors have given an amazing update.

‘Luck and skill’: Australian sailor’s survival story lost at sea

Sydney Sailor Tim Shaddock is in good health after spending three months lost at sea with no access to food or clean water.

Shaddock lived off raw fish and rain water to sustain himself while being lost at sea with his loyal hound Bella.

The Sydney local ended up stranded in the Pacific Ocean due to a brutal storm damaging his catamaran and wiping out the electronics.

The pair set sail from La Paz in Mexico to French Polynesia in April, but disaster struck a few weeks into the journey.

He was eventually rescued by a tuna trawler after being spotted by a helicopter.

Nine News obtained footage of the miraculous rescue, which shows a gaunt and shaggy Mr Shaddock explaining he only had “fishing gear, survival gear” aboard the catamaran.

His hair had grown long, his beard was unkempt and his clothes were beginning to look like rags.

On Monday, Nine reporter Lauren Tomasi told Today Mr Shaddock was in great shape despite the ordeal.

“I’ve spoken to his doctor this morning who tells me he’s stable, he’s doing very well and that he has all completely normal vital signs,” she said.

Tomasi also said the doctor had disclosed Mr Shaddock was already eating small meals and the sailor hasn’t suffered any major illnesses or injuries — in fact, he wasn’t even badly sunburnt.

It is understood he avoided sunburn by hiding under a canopy on the catamaran.

Despite the positive news it will be a slow process for Mr Shaddock to adjust to eating normally again.

Tomasi noted the rescue was miraculous given the “needle in a haystack” situation.

Mr Shaddock himself has described the experience as a “difficult ordeal” and admitted he needed “rest and food.”

He is still on a journey to dry land in Mexico where he will receive more medical treatment.
