Seven injured as car smashes into Gold Coast Starbucks

At lease seven people were injured when a car smashed into a Gold Coast Starbucks coffee shop.

Seven people have been injured after a car being driven by an elderly man slammed into a busy Gold Coast Starbucks.

Emergency crews were alerted to the incident on Victoria Ave in Broadbeach at 1.45pm (local time) Friday.

A female in her 50s received lacerations to her legs and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said.

Three other women, in their 60s, 50s, and teens, had no obvious injuries and were taken to Robina Hospital, along with a male in his 50s suffering from back and leg pain.

A male in his 70s and a female in her 80s were also assessed, but they declined transport to hospital.

People in nearby accommodation reported hearing “screaming and exploding”.

“I thought the building had exploded. The screaming was so loud,” one person, who shared a video to Twitter, said.

Another person, currently in hotel quarantine, saw the incident.

“So loud! Looks like a vehicle did crash into the building, did you hear the screech of the tyres too? Bizarre,” they wrote.

The vehicle, which didn’t cause major traffic obstruction, had to be told from the scene, Queensland Police said.

While the incident was regarded a “serious crash” due to the extent of the damage caused, it was not yet clear if the driver would face any charges.
