Pharmacist accused of trying to take photo of dying Milat

A pharmacist has allegedly been caught trying to take photos of notorious backpacker killer Ivan Milat in the hospital where the serial killer is being treated for complications arising from his advanced cancer.

A pharmacist sparked a security scare at Prince of Wales Hospital after allegedly taking photographs on a ­mobile phone near the inmate-only annex where notorious backpacker killer Ivan Milat is being treated.

It was initially believed the pharmacist had been hoping to take a photograph of Milat, who is in the advanced stages of cancer.

A prison source said Milat had been having regular ­appointments at the hospital, but was only transferred to ­inpatient care at the annex the day after the drama.

CCTV cameras allegedly showed the pharmacist taking photographs and staff suspected he was trying to snap Milat.

Authorities are investigating the matter.

Milat is in the last weeks of his life, having been in and out of Long Bay prison hospital and Prince of Wales for several months, wearing chains on his hands and feet while being pushed in a wheelchair.

His cancer, which began in the oesophagus, has spread to other organs and Milat is now thin and frail.

He is one of Australia’s worst mass murderers and is serving seven life sentences for the murders of backpackers who he tortured, raped and buried in the Belanglo State Forest, near Berrima in the Southern Highlands.

Milat is suspected of ­involvement in several other disappearances, but has always protested his innocence.
