OnlyFans star Mishel Karen says she is living in fear months after she was scammed out of $50,000 by heartless crooks whom she claims used catfishing techniques and promised her huge returns on so-called investments.

The down-to-earth Aussie mum of two, who has reinvented herself as a raunchy content creator since her appearance on the smash-hit reality TV series Married At First Sight, said she has been left devastated after the fake scammers conned her out of thousands.

She said she is still being constantly harassed by fraudsters via threatening calls and emails two months after she cut ties with them.

The adult star said the con artists lured her in last July with the prospect of making fast cash — under the guise of a bogus cryptocurrency trading scheme — after she clicked on an online link.

The 51 year old said the prospect of making more money was tempting due to the soaring cost of living, admitting she is conscious of her OnlyFans career “stopping one day”.

She also wants to warn others not to fall victim to these types of scams, which she believes are on the increase due to the cost of living crisis.

“I think that right now, in this time, I wouldn’t trust anyone,” Ms Karen said.

“I think just keep your money where it is ... just wait for a more normal time.

“Because I feel the desperation is everywhere and people will do anything to get your money... I wouldn’t believe anyone.”

Ms Karen said she had reported the fraud to “absolutely every person you can report it to,” including the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Scamwatch team.

A spokesperson for Scamwatch said the agency did not comment on individual cases.

The adult content creator said she felt gutted that she had fallen victim to scammers as she was normally savvy.

“I’m someone who would say, ‘Why would you do that? Why would you give them your money?’

“I think that I’m usually very careful with my money ... I researched it very well — I thought I did, but I didn’t, obviously.”

Ms Karen claimed when the crooks sensed she was becoming suspicious of their intentions, they brought in a pretend catfish-style “love interest” called “Charles” who plied her with gifts and promised to fly her to London.

The adult star, who is based in Brisbane, believes the scammers were aware of her high profile and used the character of “Charles” as a ploy to soften her up.

“After a while I said, I want to pull out of this. I just don’t feel this is right for me. And then they changed their tactic.

“They got a different guy to start talking to me. Well, this guy was very smooth and he put a romantic spin on it.

“I don’t know whether he was really interested in me romantically ... it was very quick.

“He said he had seen lots of pictures, but he couldn’t wait to see me in person.

“He talked about going to the country club. He talked about going to concerts and it just all matched up.”

The OnlyFans star has also been left scarred by a one-year entanglement with a fan who she ended up dating, only to find he was married with kids and wasn’t using his real name.

She spotted her ex-lover’s con when she noticed parcels addressed to him had a different name than the one he had given her.

“I was really upset, so, like, because that went on for about a year and I thought it was legit.

“He used to buy me lots of luxurious stuff. I think that it was more an emotional thing.

“I think I didn’t feel good for a long time.”

Ms Karen said she had inadvertently introduced relatives to the fake cryptocurrency trading scheme and they were also now out of pocket.

She said she doesn’t live a flashy lifestyle and makes enough money, around $7000 per month, to pay her bills.

“I think I live very frugally. I don’t need a lot of stuff and any designer gear I have, it’s been given to me as a gift.

“I really don’t need a lot — I just want to feed my pussycats and get by.”

Her experiences have left her wary and she is not sure if she will be able to rejoin the dating scene.

Mishel Karen will appear at Sexpo Australia 2022 in Melbourne, which runs from November 25 to November 27.
