NSW Election: Ryde called for Liberal Party with 50 vote margin

The last seat left in doubt following the NSW election has been called with a razor-thin margin.

'Lessons to be learnt': NSW Nationals reflect on election loss

The final seat in the NSW election has been called with the Liberal Party looking set to retain the seat of Ryde by just 50 votes.

After two-candidate preferences were distributed, the NSW Electoral Commission’s virtual tally room shows Liberal candidate Jordan Lane with a razor thin edge over Labor’s Lyndal Howison.

Mr Lane currently holds 25,425 votes – or 50.05 per cent – while Ms Howison received 25,375 votes – a 49.95 per cent share.

Ryde, In Sydney’s northwest, is the last seat to be called after the State election two weeks ago.

The NSW Electoral Commission has yet to officially call the seat, with about 11,000 postal, absent and provisional votes currently check counted.

But Antony Green, the ABC’s election analyst, on Saturday said Ryde would be held by the Liberal Party after a 8.6 per cent swing to Labor.

Mr Lane, who was elected the City of Ryde’s mayor in 2022, was preselected to contest the seat after Liberal MP Victor Dominello retired from parliament.

Ms Howison said regardless of the final result, she will always “fight for what’s best for our community”.

“We’ve got some new numbers in from the Ryde count today that show an incredibly close result in this election, with a small lead for the Liberal,” she said in a statement on social media.

“Thank you to everyone who has sent messages of support and to the hundreds of people who helped out in the campaign.”

The result leaves Labor two seats short of the 47 required to form a majority.

The Liberal Party will hold 36 seats, while there are nine independents and three Green MP’s making up the balance of the lower house.
