‘Never seen so much blood’: Bondi Rescue star caught up in stabbing horror

The TV star was shopping for a new bed one minute, and the next he was “trying to stem the bleeding” from victims of the Bondi attacks.

Lifeguard who gave first aid to Bondi stabbing victims details the horrific scenes

TV star Andrew Reid has revealed he tried to save the lives of two women when the horrifying massacre at Bondi Westfield suddenly began to unfold around him.

According to the Bondi Rescue cast member, he was shopping in Myer for a new bed when a frantic retail worker suddenly announced that “people are being stabbed” and “the building is being evacuated’ on Saturday afternoon.

The next minute he was “trying to stem the bleeding” of victims who had been stabbed by an unidentified man who went on a rampage around 3.20pm.

Myer reportedly dropped its shutters to protect those inside when gunshots rang out and it was clear a major incident was taking place.

Reid said he then looked out across the shopping centre to the fourth floor below and spotted a woman lying on the ground in desperate need of help and so asked to be let out so he could provide first aid.

“There was a lady … and there was just blood everywhere,” Reid, a father-of-three, told 9News.

“I realised I had to go and help because that’s what we’re trained to do as lifeguards.”

He and two other members of the public administered first aid to the woman, along with police officers.

“I have never seen so much blood … we were just looking for wounds, trying to stem the bleeding,’ Reid said.

“As I looked up there were multiple victims about 50m apart. The lady next to us was in a really bad way – there were others working on her.”

Six people were killed and several others injured – including a nine-month-old baby – when a knife-wielding attacker rampaged through a busy Sydney shopping centre on Saturday.

Police said multiple people were stabbed by the unidentified assailant, who was tracked down and shot dead by a policewoman who is being hailed as a national hero.

The incident occurred at the sprawling Westfield Bondi Junction mall complex, which was packed with thousands of Saturday afternoon shoppers.

Tactical police stormed the building going floor by floor to secure the scene. During this time, Reid said he had helped to stabilise the woman, then searched for anyone else who needed help.

“I saw police needed help with the other lady so I started doing compressions on her. I don’t think she made it,’ Reid said.

“Then I went to help the next victim and saw an empty pram. I have three young kids and just though oh my God.

While Reid has been involved in countless rescues and witnessed tragic outcomes, he admitted he’s never experienced anything so traumatic.

“I have seen some pretty gnarly stuff after working for 20 years on the beach, but nothing like this,” he said.
