Making switch to vegan diet easy with simple, modifiable recipes at Raw Food Preparation Workshop

Those looking to cut meat from their diet this Vegan-uary will be glad to know there are plenty of hearty alternatives to go around on a vegan diet.

Flexitarianism: vegetarianism but fun!

FOLLOWERS of “Veganuary” had some timely encouragement yesterday when a vegan chef served up tasty treats, free of animal products.

Julia Grueskin shared tips at a workshop on raw foods preparation and nutrition at Wild Hearts Yoga Tribe in Edge Hill.

The Cairns vegan chef said starchy vegetables like potato, mushrooms and pumpkin were popular and versatile additions to any vegan dish.

“Pretty much anything can be made vegan if you know how to mix and match the ingredients right,” she said.

“If you like burgers, you can make all sorts of tasty vegie patties using lentils, beans and oats for a base, mushrooms if you want something hearty.”

Ms Grueskin said avocado chocolate mousse using cocoa powder was a popular recipe that was virtually indistinguishable from the non-vegan dessert.

“There was a nice mix of people at the workshop who were either already vegan wanting new varieties, (or) people on vegetarian or paleo diets looking to try something new. It’s very simple,” she said.
