This week’s $100 million Powerball jackpot could be a life-changing win for a lucky punter. See if your area has made the list of Australia’s luckiest postcodes.

Victoria has again taken out the top spot for the most division one Lotto prizes in Australia, with the state racking up 137 wins worth more than $409 million.

However, players in New South Wales and ACT scored the most division one prize money, with 130 wins worth more than $563 million in prize money.

The NSW tally was boosted when a single player scored a staggering $100 million Powerball prize from an entry purchased online last month, becoming the second-biggest individual lottery winner in Australian history.

Across Australia, a total of 303 millionaires were created by life-changing division one wins.

The new figures come ahead of this Thursday’s $100 million Powerball draw, which is the equal biggest jackpot offered by any Australian lottery game so far this year.

According to previous financial year data crunched by The Lott, 503 division one winning entries across Australia delivered more than $1.59 billion in division one prize money.

The massive Victorian tally included a jaw-dropping $53.3 million win for a division one Powerball entry purchased online.

Another ticket, purchased at a Hampton Park newsagency in Melbourne’s southeast, netted a whopping $50 million.

Across Australia, a total of 303 millionaires were created by life-changing division one wins – the equivalent of more than one every day of the year.

New South Wales and the ACT welcomed the most new millionaires, with 88 created from lottery wins during the previous financial year.

The new data also revealed the nation’s luckiest Lotto hot spots and postcodes.

In Victoria, the postcode of 3075 for Lalor sold three division one winning entries, totalling $6.9 million. The biggest individual prize sold was a massive $5 million.

The postcodes 3172 for Springvale South/Dingley Village, 3802 for Endeavour Hills, 3754 for Doreen/Mernda, 3024 for Wyndham and 3000 for Melbourne racked up 15 division one winning entries.

New South Wales and the ACT welcomed the most new millionaires.

In New South Wales and the ACT, the postcodes of 2141 for Berala/Lidcombe and 2530 for Dapto each sold three division one winning entries, totalling $5.4 million

In Queensland, the postcodes of 4211 for Nerang/Pacific Pines and 4506 for Morayfield each sold four division one winning entries.

South Australia’s Gawler (5118) and Oaklands Park (5045) each sold two division one winning entries.

In Tasmania, the postcode of 7018 for Howrah/Rosny Park and 7172 for Sorell each sold two division one winning entries.

In the Northern Territory, the postcode of 0830 for Yarrawonga delivered the biggest division one prize from an in-store ticket.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said it was important to remember that division one wins could land anywhere at any time.

“During the past twelve months, we’ve seen the history books rewritten with Australia’s biggest ever lottery jackpot – the $160 million Powerball draw – and a new titleholder for Australia’s second-biggest individual lottery winner – last month’s $100 million Powerball winner,” he said.

“Some players tell us they deliberately pick outlets that have recently sold a major lottery prize in the hope of continuing the winning streak, while other players choose different outlets, believing lightning won’t strike twice.”
