Readers text in their verdicts on Anthony Albanese’s election win chances

News.com.au readers have given their verdict on Anthony Albanese’s chances at becoming Prime Minister after Saturday’s vote.

Election 2022: What life will be like if Anthony Albanese wins

News.com.au readers have given their verdict on Anthony Albanese’s chances at becoming Prime Minister after Saturday’s vote, texting their responses to news.com.au’s federal election text messaging service.

After reading and listening to national political editor Samantha Maiden’s exclusive podcast interview with the Labor leader, readers are split between Albo having “zero chance” to “hoping to God he wins”.

Replying to Maiden’s election text updates, where subscribers can have their election questions answered and get live updates and inside info on the campaign, many said Albo’s chances were “pretty good”.

“Albo’s chances are pretty high. Scott Morrison has let the country down time and time again and doesn’t deserve to lead us any more,” one subscriber wrote.

“I think... and hope to god he wins,” said another.

Others were confident the Labor leader would take the top job, but weren’t as enthusiastic about the prospect.

“Regrettably, very high,” one person texted of Albo’s chances. “His working class roots will get him across the line - not his policies or competence.”

“Honestly, he keeps fumbling the ball. I hope he doesn’t get the top job,” they said.

A common answer was that it was “too close to call”.

“50:50. He will or he won’t. Too close,” one subscriber wrote.

Others were more confident the Morrison Government would continue.

“The way things are looking I think he is going to lose. I was really pleased how he overcame his nerves, but the refusing and running away from questions doesn’t help his cause,” one wrote.

“Zero chance. Swing is now on back to Morrison,” one wrote.

“I think ScoMo will sneak back in!” another said.

Some readers also took the chance to criticise the Prime Minister

“Initially people didn’t seem to look at (Albanese) as the future PM but people don’t like the lies that ScoMo has been sprouting and his marketing spin doesn’t seem to be working right now,” one reader wrote. “Plus thousands of women including myself were disgusted with his lack of action re Brittany Higgins rape allegations and the fact he ignored women who marched to Parliament House. Then there’s the lack of support from the NDIS... plus pay rises needed for low income earners. Put it all together and I think Albo will win.”
