Julie Bishop has finally reunited with Scott Morrison on the campaign trail as John Howard attacked Bill Shorten for his "big end of town" claims.

"Warringah is full of people who worked hard and they've done a bit better and accumulated a bit and they don't want it taken away through higher taxes by Mr Shorten," he said.

"And anybody in this electorate who is in that category, they are not the big end of town."

That is an insult to every successful small businessman who has worked hard accumulated a bit and wants to leave it to his kids. That's what this country is all about and that's what people aspire to do.

"This fella Shorten is after those people and he sneers at them like they are the big end of town."

It comes as a huge crowd of kids rushed to Mr Shorten on their recess break in Gosford in NSW, with one girl comparing him to Michelle Obama. Another student said it was “like a concert mosh pit” as Mr Shorten took selfies in the schoolyard.

Earlier, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg dodged questions about whether the Coalition has done any modelling on how its plan to help first home buyers would impact house prices.

It will allow first home buyers to only save 5 per cent of a 20 per cent deposit and will mean they won't have to pay mortgage insurance. 

Labor matched the policy within hours of its announcement.

Labor is still expected to take out Saturday’s federal election, leading 51-to-49 per cent on a two-party preferred basis, according to today's Newspoll.
