Furious locals have spray-painted a man’s car after he was allegedly spotted masturbating in his vehicle metres from children in Sydney’s southwest.

The 71-year-old man was reportedly spotted performing the vile act while parked at Georges Hall shops on Sunday March 16 by a father walking his three daughters.

The dad ushered the children away before confronting the man who quickly drove away.

The incident, which occurred close to Georges Hall Grammar school, was captured on CCTV.

Reports on social media said furious locals later surrounded the man in his car, which was seen spray-painted with the words “pedo dog” and “kid fiddler”.

He was reported to police and arrested on Friday at his home.

NSW Police confirmed that at around 10.30am on Sunday March 16 “an incident involving a male in a vehicle, parked in Georges Crescent, Georges Hall was reported to police”.

“Following an investigation by Bankstown detectives, about 9am on Friday March 21, police arrested a 71-year-old man,” a spokeswoman said a statement.

“He was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with two offences. The man will appear at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday April 10.”

The man was charged with “behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school” and “wilful and obscene exposure in/near public place/school”.

After his arrest, Bankstown Police Area Command warned locals against taking matters into their own hands.

“This incident has been investigated by officers from Bankstown PAC and the male has been arrested and charged, the matter is now before the courts,” police said in a post on Facebook.

“Any individuals or groups actions against this male will be reported, investigated and prosecuted.”

NSW Police could not confirm whether any members of the public had been spoken to about alleged vigilantism.
