The Lakes College principal Nicole Gregory said while some schools “bolted on’’ NAPLAN preparation for their students, they built it into the curriculum and teaching and learning framework.

“Through our rigorous learning programs and adherence to the Australian curriculum we ensure that our students are in a good position to sit these tests,” Ms Gregory said.

“In addition to curriculum programs, we have some traditions that include the writing competition and the spelling bee that raise the profile of literacy in the College, which is a great platform for celebrating the success of those students who achieve high results.

“From a primary school perspective, we have heavily invested in our Walker Learning approach, which is well-researched and provides a great foundation for our early learners.

“If, as a college, our young people are focused on their individual PBs then we are lucky to reap the collective benefits of their strong results.”

To determine how each school performed between 2017 and 2021, their average scores for each year were combined and the yearly average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled in either year, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects in either year were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government‘s MySchool website.
