The Northern Territory’s premier casino has issued a public warning after it was found a fraudulent party had been actively masquerading as its business online.
It is alleged the scammers, who are falsely representing Mindil Beach Casino Resort, are promoting an unauthorised online casino product via social media and misleading individuals into believing the product is affiliated with the real casino.
The casino’s cybersecurity team is currently investigating the matter.
A spokesperson from Mindil Beach Casino Resort has confirmed the business does not offer any online casino products.
“It is illegal for online casinos to be licensed in Australia and, therefore, Mindil Beach Casino Resort does not offer any online casino products or services,” the spokesperson said.
“Any party which is claiming to offer an online casino product or service linked to Mindil Beach Casino Resort is making false representations and unless this ceases, we will report them to appropriate authorities.”
The spokesperson encouraged those with information to contact the casino.
“We urge the public to be vigilant when encountering unsolicited digital communication which claims to be from Mindil Beach Casino Resort,” they said.
“We welcome any member of the public reporting suspicious activities in this area to us.”
