A devastating car accident has made the high school years that much tougher for Milicia Ardalic, but she won’t let it stop her achieving her HSC goals.

The Liverpool Girls High School Year 12 student suffered a brain injury from the accident back in February 2020, which has had a massive impact on her ability to study and complete tasks.

Thankfully she’s had a lot of support from her school, and has been granted special provisions during the HSC exams to ensure she gets a fair shot at success.

“I was in a 20-day coma after the accident and suffered a range of injuries, and the effects of it have stayed with me to this day,” Milicia, 17, said.

“I broke both femurs, tore a ligament in my neck, had a big cut on my scalp, and suffered a brain injury.

“I still get pains in my legs as well as really painful headaches which can last all day and sometimes find it hard to concentrate and so it does affect my studies.”

She’s nervous about this week’s exams, but keen to get the marks needed to undertake theatre studies at university.

She’s studied hard, but ensured she had plenty of breaks. She’s confident about her music and drama exams – not so much for the English and maths tests.

“I’m thankful for the special provisions, which will allow me to have a five-minute break every 30 minutes if needed,” she said.

“I also get to sit the exams in a smaller room, rather than the main hall, which will help me concentrate better.”
