A MAN riding a motorbike has broken his neck after being flung 10 metres following a collision with a ute in Oxenford this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 3:46pm when a ute was travelling north up the Old Pacific Highway before stopping to do a U-turn in Crows Ash Court when the motorcyclist collided with the vehicle.
District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Tony Wormald said it was unclear whether the Ute failed to see the motorcyclist or vice versa.
“They were both coming north,” he said.
“We’ve no allegations of speed at this stage.”
He said the driver of the Ute was uninjured but the motorbike rider was seriously hurt.
A least two ambulances were sent out to assess the man.
“Motorists just need to be observant, they need to be aware of their surroundings” Snr Sgt Wormald said.
“ And keep an eye out before doing a U-turn.”
At the time road traffic police were conducting speed tests just 100 metres up the road.
The motorists involved would not have seen them.
Motorists southbound on the Old Pacific Highway are being turned back, leading to some delays.
Northbound, the road is closed up at the roundabout.
The road is expected to stay closed for another hour and a half as The Forensic Crash Unit investigate.
A woman who lived in Figs Court said she had been waiting to hear when she could re-enter her home as traffic had been stopped before the road. She was let through about 20 minutes later.
Queensland Ambulance officers are being assisted by the High Acuity Response Unit (HARU).
Southbound traffic has been affected.
