May 27, 5pm: A “significant” fire which engulfed a home, a garage, and a bus in suburban Alice Springs is under investigation, fireys say, with the cause yet to be determined.
In a statement, NT Fire and Emergency Services said crews responded to a structure fire on Arunga St on Tuesday afternoon.
A report of the blaze came in at 2.23pm, with “swift action” by fireys resulting in the “significant fire” being put out and damage to nearby houses avoided, acting district officer Jo-Anna Kenney said.
“Emergency services are still on the scene and smoke is still impacting the area, so we’re urging the public to find alternative routes home,” she said.
No injuries were reported from the fire, which the statement said involved a bus, garage, and home.
When this masthead visited the scene, Arunga St was closed, with police and firefighters still on site.
No indication was given as to when the street would reopen, and this masthead was unable get close enough to ask officers on the scene.
The fire remains under investigation, and anyone with any information is urged to contact police on 131 444.
Alleged domestic violence attack behind Alice Springs CBD prang: Cops
May 26, 4pm: A man who allegedly deliberately attempted to hit a woman with his car in the middle of the Alice Springs CBD is still on the run, cops say.
In statement released Monday afternoon, police said the man allegedly mounted the kerb in Todd St, narrowly missing other pedestrians, before crashing.
The man was allegedly attempting to hit a woman on the footpath, police said, and upon exiting the car “chased the victim before police arrival”.
No age or description of the man was given, with the Southern Domestic Violence Unit now investigating.
A crime scene is in place, police said, with Todd St and Gregory Tce set to experience “partial blockages”.

Woman walking dog allegedly pelted by rocks in Alice
May 26, 12pm: A woman walking her dog in suburban Alice Springs has allegedly had rocks thrown at her by man who was allegedly following, cops say.
NT Police, through a statement, said the woman was uninjured after the rocks were thrown at her Sunday morning while she was walking along Grevillea Drive.
The incident was reported to police at 11.40am, the statement said, with the rocks allegedly thrown at the woman after she requested the male stop following her.
Police are investigating, according to the statement, and have urged any witnesses to get in touch.
Police have asked reference number NTP2500053757 be quoted in relation to the incident.

Woman allegedly assaulted, robbed on Stuart Hwy
May 26, 10.15am: Two men have allegedly assaulted and robbed a woman in the Red Centre capital, with police asking for the public’s help to track them down.
In a statement, NT Police said the alleged robbery occurred near the Stuart Hwy and Palm Circuit intersection Saturday morning.
The woman, 38, was walking back to her accommodation when she was approached by two masked men, the statement said.
“The males allegedly assaulted the victim and stole personal items including her phone, wallet and approximately $200 before they fled on foot towards the Stuart Highway,” the statement said.
Strike Force Viper are investigating, the statement said, which is also urging any witnesses to come forward.
Police said they’re particularly interested in dashcam footage, any anyone with information should contact them on 131 444.
Police have asked reference number NTP2500053384 be quoted in relation.
