A man is behind bars in the Red Centre after Territory cops got a tip off from across the ditch alleging child abuse offences were being committed by a man in the NT.

NT Police said the man, aged 61, had been arrested and fronted court in Alice Springs on Friday, where he was remanded in custody.

The man has been charged with producing and possessing child abuse material.

Police said the man was arrested on Thursday, following a raid his home and a tip off from New Zealand alleging the man was possessing child abuse material.

“Several electronic storage devices” at the property were seized, police said, who further alleged the devices contained child abuse material.

The man was arrested in Alice Springs, police said, but no mention was made of the location of the property which was searched.

Under NT Law, individuals charged with crimes of a sexual nature cannot be named due to a statutory suppression, unless their matter is committed to the Supreme Court.

The man’s matter will return to court at a later date, police said.
