A Logan stay-at-home mum, with a lengthy history of drug charges, has pleaded guilty to driving while on meth and says she might have ADHD.

Australia's Court System

A Logan stay-at-home mum with a length drug history has pleaded guilty to driving while on meth, but says she may have ADHD.

Samantha Noble, 34, faced Beaudesert Magistrates Court on Tuesday (September 1) charged with driving with drugs in her system, and failing to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court in July.

A certificate of analysis tabled to the court showed Noble had methamphetamine in her system while driving on May 1 this year.

She was later disqualified from driving for six months and placed on a community correction order for 12 months.

Police prosecutor Snr-Constable Andrew Bjerring told the court that about 9pm on May 1 police intercepted her car on Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley for a random breath and drug test.

“She returned a positive result for methamphetamine,” Snr-Constable Bjerring said.

He said she was on bail in June and was supposed to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 6 but failed to show.

When police confronted her at her home on July 11 she told them she had forgotten to attend.

The court heard Noble completed Year 10, was on Centrelink payments and has three children under 10. She lives in a home owned by her parents, with her partner and children.

Noble’s lawyer said she had taken meth a few days before being caught driving.

“This is obviously suggestive of an ongoing drug problem,” he told the court.

“She instructs she may have undiagnosed ADHD. She is remorseful.”

The court heard Noble had just completed her last parole, for drug offences, three months before being caught drug driving.

She was also charged with drug offences in August, 2019 and drug driving in October that year.

She was on probation for 15 months in 2015 for other drug charges.

Magistrate Tracy Mossop said Noble had two convictions in the past five years for drug-driving.

“You (Noble) have multiple breaches of bail on your history,” Ms Mossop said.

“And you have not just a previous history of driving with a relevant drug present, but a previous history where you have been engaged in drug use on multiple entries since 2014 including a sentence of imprisonment where you received immediate parole.

“Anybody who takes meth needs assistance and particularly if they’re a mother with young children.

“You should not be engaging in meth use and you need to do something to move away from it.”

Ms Mossop said she did not think a fine would deter Noble from further drug taking.

“You need some assistance to help you move away from this drug use,” she said.

Ms Mossop disqualified Noble from holding or obtaining a driver’s license for six months and released her under supervision of Community Corrections for 12 months.

She must not commit another offence for those 12 months, must take part in counselling and any required programs, submit to urine drug testing and demonstrate a reduction in drug use.

“We’re going to make you accountable for your drug issue,” Ms Mossop said.

Convictions were recorded for both offences.
