Lifeline Darling Downs and South West reflects on half a century of commitment, compassion and connection

For half a century, those in crisis across the Toowoomba region and surrounds have had a lifeline to reach out to.
That vital service, Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland, will celebrate its 50-year milestone this Sunday, July 20, since launching its network of services in 1975.
Since its inception as a humble 24-hour counselling line, it has blossomed into Australia’s largest regional Lifeline Centre, with over 150 dedicated staff and 300 passionate volunteers.
CEO Rachelle Patterson said over the years, Lifeline helped generations of residents get through a range of crises.
“This milestone is a testament to the strength of our community and the dedication of those who have walked alongside us over the years,” she said.
“We are incredibly proud of the legacy Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland has built and the lives we’ve touched.
“Today, we celebrate not just our history but the future we’re shaping together.”
Ms Patterson said Lifeline Darling Downs and South West was incredibly grateful for the support of its donors, volunteers, team members past and present, who helped keep the vital service running.
Offering more than 30 life-changing programs across a 300,000 square kilometre area, Lifeline continues to provide hope and healing to those experiencing family and domestic violence, financial and gambling issues, as well as providing emergency support for families and youth.
A spokeswoman for Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland said on Monday 21 July, all stores will be celebrating with a special “Manager’s Special” promotion, which will include store discounts.
