IT was all smiles today for Gold Coast nippers as they leapt into the pool, and another year of Surf Life Saving at the Kurrawa Surf Club sign on day.

Thirteen-year-old Jessica Tonkovic from Kurrawa Surf Club said it was her love of the ocean and the early morning wake ups that encouraged her to join nippers for the third year in a row.

“I love the ocean, I love swimming, and it’s just nice to get up early in the morning, and do something on a Sunday,” she said.

Jessica and her family are all actively involved in the Surf Life Saving community, and all agreed upon the importance of learning surf safety.

“I think it’s important to know what to do if something bad happens and it’s good to know how to react, and what you need to do to help someone or yourself, Jessica said.”

“Even if it’s just knowing the signs of a rip before it happens is so important.”
