New details have emerged about the circumstances which led to 11-year-old Jack losing his life when a car crashed into his school.

A driver who ploughed her car into a school fence, killing an 11-year-old boy and injuring four other children, attended a two-hour meeting at the school before the crash, it has been revealed.

Jack Davey was killed on Tuesday afternoon when a white SUV veered off the road while doing a U-turn, smashing into the gate at Auburn South Primary School in Melbourne’s east.

Jack died on the way to the hospital while four of his friends remain in hospital after being injured.

It has now been revealed the driver - a 40-year-old woman - attended a two-hour long meeting at the school before the crash.

Victoria Police said she picked one of her children who attends the school, but lost control while performing a U-Turn.

The circumstances surrounding the two-hour meeting have not yet been revealed.

On Thursday, Jack’s father Michael spoke alongside his wife Jayde and told of the unimaginable pain of losing their son.

“Words can’t adequately describe the utter devastation we feel as we come to terms with the sudden, overwhelming loss of our Jack, a son, brother and friend to many,” Mr Davey said.

“We find comfort in reading the many messages and memories of Jack and how his life and energy was a positive influence on so many in the community at just 11 years old.”

“Personally, he is our champion.”

Mr Davey specifically thanked the school’s receptionist – a former emergency department nurse – who comforted Jack after the crash.

“We will never be able to adequately convey our thanks,” Mr Davey said.

“He is our beloved son and brother who remains very much alive in our hearts and memories, as we piece together our lives with his spirit going forward.

”We wish to extend our love and wishes to Jack’s beautiful friends who were injured in the accident, and to their families.”

On Facebook, Mr Davey posted a photo of Jack wearing a Melbourne Demons cap, scarf and jersey, along with a heartfelt message to his late son.

“Our beautiful son. A shooting star who blessed us for 11 years with love, friendship and kindness,” Mr Davey wrote.

”You were my inspiration and motivation. I cannot comprehend the life ahead without you.

“My mate, my champ, my Jackie-boi …”

“Godspeed until we meet again … I love you. Dad x.”

The Melbourne Demons Football Club released a statement to X after learning that Jack was a fan of the club.

“We know Jack was a passionate Dees fan, and we extend our condolences to his family + classmates at Auburn South Primary School, as well as the wider community. ”
