Hunt for brazen dognappers after blue Suzuki Swift stolen from busy Alderley street

A police hunt is under way for a tiny chihuahua who was asleep in the back seat of a car stolen from Brisbane’s north.

A veterinary nurse’s tiny pooch has triggered a massive police hunt after it was carjacked in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Heartbroken owner Jamie Miller said she had not slept a wink since her beloved six-year-old chihuahua, Zoe, was nabbed while the pint-sized pup slept in the back seat of her blue Suzuki Swift at 6am.

“She is like my only child and she comes with me everywhere,” Ms Miller said.

“I take her to work with me at the veterinary clinic, where she gets lots of treats and all the staff love her.

“They can’t believe she’s gone and everyone is devastated.

“The police are treating this as a special case because it involved the theft of both a car and a dog and credit cards.”

Video footage from a nearby Caltex service station on Samford Rd, Mitchelton showed a man get out of the car and walk in to pay for $40 of fuel using Ms Miller’s stolen credit card.

The footage also showed Zoe sitting on the lap of a woman in the front seat.

Police said the man was tall, caucasian, had brown hair with sides shaved and he was wearing a black T-shirt, blue denim shorts and red Adidas sneakers.

Footage also showed he had tattoos on the back of his legs and neck.

Ms Miller said she was anxious and concerned for the welfare of her little dog who she rescued a year ago after she was surrendered.

“My life is destroyed and I am concerned these criminals are not treating her properly because she gets highly nervous and with this cold weather she needs to be kept warm,” she said.

“I want her back safely and I don’t care about anything else other than her – even the loss of credit cards and the car mean nothing compared to her return.”

Ms Miller said the tragedy took less than three minutes to unfold outside a cafe on the corner of Camborne St and Samford Rd in Alderley, while she was getting a coffee before starting her 12-hour shift at the vet clinic.

“Someone must have seen something at that time as it’s a busy road and even though it was dark, I am hoping someone can help me find my Zoe,” Ms Miller said.

Ms Miller, who works at the Animal Emergency Centre at Woolloongabba, said she was happy to give a reward for the return of her dog.

Police said there had been 2136 cases of unlawful use of a motor vehicle in the Alderley, Mitchelton and Stafford areas this year.
