Territorians could score huge savings on power bills in the future thanks to a new home design guide.

The guide would benefit anyone looking to purchase or build a new home – it offers a comprehensive introduction to a home’s passive cooling features that would save on aircon bills down the road.

Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Minister Joel Bowden said planning and designing for the Top End’s tropical climate would make homes more sustainable, enjoyable, and comfortable.

“Homeowners, designers and building professionals can work together to incorporate tropical design features into homes that will save on energy use and increase liveability for residents,” Mr Bowden said.

“Buildings designed for tropical climates such as considering shading, louvres, verandas, surrounding vegetation and increasing airflow will save residents money on energy bills and increase the value of the home.”
