In-form Cat Gryan Miers has revealed the range of emotions he felt after a sickening concussion sustained against Hawthorn at the MCG in Round 6.
The Hawks’ Conor Nash was suspended for four weeks for the hit on Miers on Easter Monday.
On Monday at Geelong College, the 26-year-old said it was his first proper concussion in the game.
“It was a learning curve for me,” Miers said.
“I remember day one feeling 100 per cent, I think I passed my concussion test 10 minutes after I was asleep on the G.
“It was a bit unique, I thought: ‘I’m in the clear here’.
“Then for the next few days it rattled me a bit, that’s kind of why I missed that second game (against Collingwood), I just felt the different effects of concussion, I had to take it really seriously.”
He said he lent on other teammates for support, including Lawson Humphries who also went through concussion protocols after the Pies game in Round 8.
“You kind of bounce off your symptoms and how you’re feeling, the weird ones you get emotional, either sadness, anger, just at random times when it feels unnecessary, so I definitely felt those things,” he said.
“I’m feeling really good now, I’m not going to lie and say I was perfect for those two weeks because there was definitely stuff there, but, I’ve recovered exceptionally well and my brain is in a great place.”
Meanwhile, Miers said he was happy with his own personal form since the Round 6 knock.
“I’m very confident in myself in how I’m going about it, I always will even if I was going terribly,” he said.
He said looking back on his eight years at the club, when the Cats have gone deep in finals, it was a “similar feeling”.
“We’re in a good position, the job’s definitely not done, so there’s a lot to do,” he said.
“You just want to set yourself up to get in form at the right time of the year, I think we’ve done a really good job of that.”
