‘Will I be shot or hung?’: Bizarre question from Gold Coast drink driver

A man accused of driving almost five times over the legal alcohol limit has issued a bizarre response after his latest charge.

A MAN accused of driving almost five times over the legal alcohol limit asked a magistrate if he would be “shot or hung” for moving his new car to another parking space to escape a “severe door banger”.

David Michael Jones faced the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday accused of driving under the influence of alcohol on the Gold Coast last year.

The court heard the man allegedly returned a high-range blood alcohol reading of 0.282 — more than five times the legal limit to drive.

Jones, who was self-represented, told the court the charge came after he was allegedly forced to move his new Kia two spaces to avoid it getting damaged by a “severe door banger”.

The court heard Jones’ criminal history featured a number of entries for drink driving.

As he walked out of the courtroom after hearing his matter was adjourned until Thursday, Jones said: “Are they going to shoot me or hang me?”
