Morning beach walkers raised the alarm and crews from Seaworld are reportedly preparing to begin rescue efforts.
A witness has told the Bulletin the whale appears to be stuck near a drumline and is surrounded by a few buoys.
“I’m not sure if it’s dragged the net further north of Kirra, the mother and other calves were in the area, but I can’t see them anymore,” he said.
“It is definitely still alive, it is using its blowhole every now and then.”
