It comes after just 9mm throughout all of last month and 6.4mm throughout August.
WeatherZone meteorologist Tom Hough said there was a “fair amount of uncertainty” in current forecasts.
“It certainly looks like Saturday will be the wetter day, we’ve got a range from 10mm to upwards of 60-80mm,” he said.
“I’d say 15-30mm is the safe bet at this point, on Friday I’d say there will be 5-15mm.”
A deepening trough off the coast has combined with moist onshore winds to create the wet conditions.

“It’s looking like going back to drier weather from Sunday, there will still be a few showers.”
