A large yacht has overturned in the Gold Coast Broadwater prompting authorities to issue a warning to boaties.
Crews from Gold Coast Waterways Authority, Volunteer Marine Rescue and Maritime Safety Queensland were called to the location off Labrador on Sunday morning to reports of the sunken vessel, a Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) spokesman told the Bulletin.
The yacht was found a short distance off the coastline and on it’s side in the Broadwater.
“The vessel is not polluting nor has any debris been located from the vessel,” the TMR spokesman said.
“The owner has been contacted by MSQ Marine Officers.”
Plans were still underway to try and refloat the boat and move it to dry land. A yellow buoy with special lighting has been installed next to the wreck to warn other passing vessels.
Maritime Safety Queensland has issued a Notice to Mariners with specific coordinates of the hazard and warns boaties to travel with caution through the Labrador channel.
