The owner of a popular live music venue has received hundreds of signatures on a petition to become the new home for the Hard Rock Cafe guitar.

On March 7 the 17m-tall guitar, which was mounted on the Paradise Centre in Surfers Paradise, was removed a year after the restaurant’s closure.

Many fans of the venue and Surfers locals were disheartened by the removal, with some describing it as the “end of an era”.

The Bulletin understand the guitar will remain in storage until the owners find its new location.

On Tuesday, Southport’s Vinnies Dive Bar owner Glenn Stewart started a petition to get the guitar relocated to their venue.

“Let Vinnies Dive have the Surfers Paradise Hard Rock Cafe Guitar,” he said.

“We’ll find room somewhere.”

Almost 400 people had signed the petition in the first 18 hours of it being live.

“This is an actual cause to get behind,” local Thomas Blundell said.

“I’ve loved the growth of Vinnies for over three years and now it’ll just improve the notoriety so let’s do it.”

Another local who signed the petition said “literally where else could it go”.

The Hard Rock Cafe closed nearly a year ago after a rental dispute between the restaurant’s international arm and management of the Paradise Centre shopping complex came to a head, leaving more than 30 people out of work.
