ALL eyes are on the sky with local UFO hunters expecting a busy season of sightings.
Keen-eyed Gold Coast residents have spotted three apparently unidentified flying objects in the sky since mid-August when warming weather traditionally leads to a higher number of UFO sightings in the region.
On August 14 a Mudgeeraba woman is reported to have seen five bright objects over Robina Town Centre from her home. The lights disappeared after she went inside to find a camera.
On September 5 a Tallebudgera man is reported to have seen what appeared to be a falling star move from north to south and disappear over the horizon.
The third sighting on August 9, in Labrador, featured blue and red lights hovering in the sky.
``The Tallebudgera and Labrador sighting matched reports of previous occurrences which featured bright red lights,’’ UFO Research Queensland’s Sheryl Gottschall said.
``In many cases of reports received from the public, during the interview it’s often revealed that witnesses have also had sightings previously in their childhood.’’
``In some case they’re told by their parents not to speak about what they have seen, in other cases the whole family have witnessed UFO events and this can act as a catalyst for a lifelong interest in the UFO subject.
``Unfortunately in the majority of situations, if the witness tells their family what they have seen they are often ridiculed to such an extent that they stop talking about the event and end up suffering stress from the experience of living with the prolonged secret of an extraordinary event.’’
The organisation, which began in 1956, has a sightings database going back to the 1990s. Many sightings reported in the past year have been on the southern Gold Coast.
Seeing a UFO is a close encounter of the first kind. Physical evidence lifts the rating to the second kind, while contact is an encounter of the third kind.
