A Gold Coast man has undergone surgery and remains in a coma after a horrific M1 crash that caused delays for more than eight hours.
Emergency services were called to the northbound lanes of the Pacific Motorway near the Oxenford overpass at about 2.55am after reports of the accident involving a truck and a ute.
A 33-year-old man suffered multiple fractures and was unconscious at the scene.
He was rushed to Gold Coast University hospital in a critical condition.
It’s believed the truck was pulled over on the side of the road with its hazard lights on when the crash occurred.
The truck driver was shaken, but uninjured.
Two lanes of traffic remain closed more than eight hours after the crash, causing long delays for southbound motorists on the M1 and on surrounding service roads.
The driver of the ute has undergone surgery and will be placed in an induced coma until at least Wednesday.
The cause of the crash is unknown and forensic officers are investigating.
Meanwhile, fire crews were called to a property at Arundel last night after reports that a tractor was alight.
Two crews arrived at the Ivan St home shortly before 7pm to find a tractor and an attached trailer well involved.
It was extinguished a short time later.
