A Gold Coast father-to-be is being mourned after a fatal e-scooter crash in Nerang on Friday.
Stuart “Stu” Jackson, 40, was riding his e-scooter in the Nerang area when he was found unresponsive by a passer-by around 12:13pm near Gloucester Court in Highland Park.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and performed CPR, but he later died from life-threatening head injuries.
Mr Jackson’s wife, Kellie West, is due to give birth to a baby girl in five weeks and is now facing the heartbreak of losing her partner just weeks before the birth of their first child.
Family member Leesa Kenyon said: “They were trying for a few years, it’s devastating.”
She said the couple had been together for eight years and married for just under two years. They recently bought their first home together, marking the start of an exciting new chapter in their lives.
“Stu was a fantastic, loyal, caring, hardworking husband who seemed to be just in his prime preparing to introduce his baby girl into the world,” Ms Kenyon said.
“Words cannot describe the heartache of this tragedy for all family and friends.
“He’s just the most loyal guy that I could have ever wanted my cousin to be with.”
Ms Kenyon has started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help with the family’s funeral arrangements and “anything the new mum-to-be will need”.
“I’ve done the GoFundMe purely because I can’t be there for her right now – I’m in Tassie, so I’ve sort of just done on the back end, just to help her out,” she said.
“Because obviously no one has a funeral plan at that age set in place.
“Even if she does a Babymoon – a little break before she has the baby – I’m worried about the stress.”
Tributes also flowed on social media for Mr Jackson.
“Stu was an amazing person who could light up a room and was just weeks away from starting his next big journey into fatherhood,” Justin French wrote on Facebook.
“He was generous to others, with a heart of gold.
“Fly high, Stu. We’re all going to miss you so much. ️The dancefloor will never be the same without ya mate.”
Mr Fench also wrote Mr Jackson was a regular plasma and blood donator
Paramedics were called to Gloucester Court in Highland Park at around 12.13pm and treated the rider who had life-threatening head injuries.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said a member of the public who was walking in Natural Bushland Park discovered the rider unresponsive and called emergency services.
Paramedics performed CPR on the rider who later died at the scene.
Investigations are continuing.
