TransLink have announced more Gold Coast track closures over the summer school holidays, urging rail commuters to plan their journey ahead of time.

Gold Coasters should expect track closures and transport changes over the Christmas and New Year school holiday period to allow for Cross River Rail works.

Cross River Rail Delivery Authority CEO Graeme Newton said the size and scale of the works required crews to spend lengthy periods in the rail corridor.

“More than 300 workers will be busy during the typically quieter school holiday period carrying out the massive scope of work, which cannot occur safely while trains are running,” Mr Newton said.

“The work that needs to be undertaken goes beyond the underground tunnels and stations that make up Cross River Rail.”

Head of TransLink Deborah Hume said alternative travel arrangements would be in place during the closure.

“There will be up to 220 rail replacement buses in operation to ensure customers can continue to travel around the southeast,” Dr Hume said.

“This will include some buses running as express services and others stopping near all stations.”

Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines

Track closures and changes to train services at various stages from Saturday 21 December 2024 to Friday 10 January 2025.

Gold Coast services will make an additional stop at Rocklea from 29 December to 5 January for customers travelling to the Brisbane International Tennis for transfer to event shuttles.

From Saturday 11 until Sunday 19 January, there will be track closures in place, with buses replacing trains between Banoon and Boggo Road/ Park Road stations.

Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines will run as a combined service stopping all stations between Varsity Lakes and Banoon during this period.
