The Gold Coast Titans’ official home is ready to cheer on the women’s team in an historic grand final this Sunday.
The Club at Parkwood is opening from 8am on Grand Final day and expecting family-friendly crowds ahead of the 2.55pm kick-off against the Newcastle Knights.
The Club managing director Luke Altschwager said: “We’re really pumped – it’s a big day.
“It’s been great to watch the club evolve, we’ve been involved for over six years now nearly seven and seeing the transition of the overall club and what the girls have done has been incredible.”
Food and drink specials, face painting and balloons will be on offer.
“We try and bring the fun so it will be a carnival vibe with face painting, mini golf, indoor golf, great food and we look forward to welcoming the girls back Monday with that trophy.” “We open eight and we go late, if they win we’ll go really late,” Mr Altschwager laughed
The Titans women, wooden spooners last season, defeated the Roosters in a 12-0 boilover last weekend.
Star Gold Coast chief operating officer Jess Mellor said her team could not be more proud to hopefully witness history, with ex-Titans star Nate Myles on site plus a face painter for anyone wanted decked out in team colours: “The entire city is celebrating the first Gold Coast side to make a grand final at a national level.”
The game is live at the Garden Bar’s Lawn and Sport Bar.
The Star’s Brisbane operation is getting behind it, lighting up new Queens Wharf project Neville Bonner Bridge in Titans colours on Saturday night.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the city would look at a civil parade should the Titans women win Sunday’s NRLW grand final against the Newcastle Knights.
“We are right behind our girls,” Mr Tate said, adding the Gold Coast Suns won the VFL earlier this month and it would be a major coup to snatch the NRLW trophy.
“I’m happy to work with both administrations here on the Gold Coast if they plan any street parades or meet-the-stars events for the girls, or VFL men’s heroes.
“Our facilities are there to assist and we would be willing to help with logistics and promotion. The ball is in their court.”
A Titans NRLW players meet-and-greet has since been organised under the Surfers Paradise sign off Cavill Mall on Tuesday at 10am “win or lose”, a city spokesman confirmed.
There will be a sausage sizzle and autograph opportunities.
Kids, parents and fans are encouraged to wear favourite Titans attire.
