FORMER England rugby captain Mike Tindall stole the show at the Magic Millions barrier draw yesterday when he joked about his relationship with his wife — the Queen’s granddaughter, Zara Phillips.
Tindall, a successful horse owner, was asked by host Hamish McLachlan what his budget was at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale this week to which Mrs Phillips quickly responded, ‘Nothing’.
It wasn’t long until Tindall’s response sent the crowd into a fit of laughter.
“It’s the only time the handcuffs have come out in our relationship and it’s for the wrong reason,” Tindall quipped.
MAGIC MILLIONS MUST-HAVE GADGET
The rain might have been pelting down but it did little to dampen the mood at the barrier draw on the Surfers Paradise foreshore yesterday.
Magic Millions co-owner Gerry Harvey was even at his cheeky best when he took over the microphone and questioned why Mrs Phillips chose Mr Tindall over him.
“I have a little tummy and Mike hasn’t, is that why you picked him?” Mr Harvey said.
“He is a bit younger and better looking..
“Sorry about the better looking — I sincerely apologise for saying something stupid like that.”
Harvey even picked out the barrier for the second emergency in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Zafina.
Harvey part-owns the filly and quipped, ‘She is one million to one to get a start, so why I’m doing this is an absolute joke’.
Zafine drew barrier 21, which was the worst possible result.
