AN aspiring Gold Coast actor says he was made to appear “a little bit like an idiot” by producers when he made his small screen TV debut on a dating show last night.
On Seven’s The Proposal, Tannum Bowater, 36, tried to woo a woman he could not see, Kate, by showing off his rapping skills.
“It was quite comical,” the father of two said. “You know, they do fluff everything up and make you look like a little bit like an idiot, make it a bit dramatic.
“It probably didn’t help going on there and doing a rap.
“As soon as I finished my little rap they cut to the (her) mum who was like ‘No. No way. Get rid of him’. And I’m like ‘(oh my god) that’s so embarrassing’.

“But everything is different and you have to see something that’s a bit unusual and creative.”
Mr Bowater, one of eight men on the show looking for marriage within an hour, left without finding love.
Mr Bowater didn’t say if he went on the show genuinely looking for love, but admitted he went on there to face his fears.
“I went there for a few different reasons. One of the biggest fears since I was a kid was public speaking,” he said.

“So the drive for me was to make sure I get over that and put myself in an uncomfortable position.
“But the guy who went through with (the proposal) was genuinely out there looking for love.”
Last night six of the contestants, including Wade Morey from country Melbourne and Andrew Foley from Brisbane, got together to host a blind speed dating event at Mr P.P’s Deli and Rooftop in Southport to raise money for the local charity The Sanctuary.
Mr Bowater has had small acting roles in Dora: The City of Lost Gold, Godzilla vs King Kong and Reef Break.
