Owners are hosting a “best balcony” Christmas light competition to raise awareness and funds in support of the Scott brothers - two young Gold Coast men both diagnosed with the deadly disease.

Fletcher Scott, 27, was diagnosed just days into a three week Bali trip this year.

Four years earlier his brother Harrison, then 29, was diagnosed.

“The likelihood of the chances of two brothers both being diagnosed was around one in 10 million,” Fletcher said.

“We’re on the bad side of that luck, but at the same time with all of the good that’s come with it, we definitely both look at it as a positive – all the people that rally around have been amazing.”

With $20,000 raised for Movember, the Gold Coast locals along with the support of The Lanes West Village community aim to raise more funds – this time in support of the chemotherapy ward at Gold Coast University Hospital.

Fletcher said his experience with the ward was “unbelievable” – wanting to pass back the help he received this Christmas.

Committee member and former Married at First Sight star Hayley Vernon was the driving force behind the Christmas lights fundraiser. Ms Vernon said: “We’re all about community and when our body corporate heard our chairman’s son was affected by testicular cancer we thought what a better time than Christmas to get behind the act of giving.”

“All proceeds from the competition will be donated to Fletcher's cause – people can make a donation, whether it’s $5 up to any amount they want.”
